Falcons make it back-to-back wins against Junction Elite

London Falcons made it two wins from two with a hard-fought 4-1 victory over a spirited Junction Elite.

Falcons XI: Matt H; Matt D, George, Jeff, Charlie, Kieran; Jimmy, Joe, Ed S; Will, Myles. Subs: Sam, Paddy Man of the Match: Jimmy Goals: Joe, Jimmy, Will (x2) It was a lightning start that allowed the Falcons to race into an early lead, thanks to the quick thinking and industry of midfielder Joe. With barely two minutes on the clock, a lovely little back heel from the Sunderland Pele Matt Doherty allowed Joe to break through the Junction Elite defence with a nice run, before slotting the ball round the onrushing keeper.

It was soon two, this time through a stroke of inspiration from manager Jimmy. As the Falcons flooded forward, he spotted the keeper of his line and lifted a deft chip from 25 yards into the back of the Junction Elite net. Before half time it was three. The wet and windy autumnal conditions had rendered the Junction Elite penalty area into a bog in places, creating the perfect arena for some prime goalmouth scramble action. From one of Joe’s corners, Ed leapt onto the ball but his drill got dragged down in the mud. Luckily Will was on hand to poke the ball home from 6 yards and send the Falcons in with a three-goal advantage.

A sharp start to the second half was rewarded with a fourth goal. Jeff’s long ball over the top was pressed by Will and Charlie, who forced the keeper into an error and left Will to slot home into an empty net. There was time for a consolation from Junction Elite, when a 25-yard free kick was able to squeak its way into the bottom left-hand corner of the Falcons net. Next week it’s cup action for the Falcons against AFC Cubo. If you fancy joining the squad, why not come down to training at Kennington Park, where we meet every Tuesday night at 7:45pm! We play league matches on Saturday afternoons, which means Soccer Special and drinks in the pub afterwards!
