Five out of five for Falcons!

The Falcons made it five wins from five games this season after a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Earlsfield 2019 maintained their 100% start to the season.

Falcons XI: Jeff; Ed S, Pete, Charlie, George (c), Joe; Jimmy, Myles, Jim; Will, Stevie. Subs: Abdul, Matt D, Conal Man of the Match: Ed S Goals: Stevie (x2)

On a sodden day in South West London, the Falcons preparations were hindered by travel plans, with first choice keeper Conal being delayed to kick off due to issues with a rail replacement service and three subsequent trains to Raynes Park. In his stead stepped up Jeff, who valiantly kept out all that came near his net, until a difficult ball in saw the Falcons unable to clear their lines, with the hosts scrambling the ball into the net to claim the lead.

This setback was harsh on the Falcons, who had more than kept in the game for the first twenty minutes, but soon the visitors restored parity thanks to a fantastic team goal. Man of the Match Ed cantered down the right flank and whipped in a beautifully floated cross which was met by the in-form Stevie, whose sublime volley crashed into the back of the Earlsfield net.

From then on it was an attritional affair, with the waterlogged turf serving as a perfect theatre for sliding tackles and skirmishes across the pitch. With the Falcons starting to dominate, they snatched the lead with just a quarter of an hour left thanks to Stevie finishing off a solo run with a finish at the second attempt to claim a deserved winner.

Despite a few late set pieces increasing the tension, the Falcons defence was not to be breached again, with every member of the team putting in their biggest shift of the season yet to seal all three points!

Next week it’s back to GFSN Cup action against Yorkshire at Tooting Bec Common!

If you fancy joining the squad, why not come down to training at Kennington Park, where we meet every Tuesday night at 7:45pm! We play league matches on Saturday afternoons, which means Soccer Special and drinks in the pub afterwards!
