Top of the league!

Falcons made it four wins from the opening four games of the season with a comprehensive 6-1 victory over London Athenians that saw us climb to the top of the table.

Falcons XI: Matt H; Kieran, Pete, George (c), Jeff, Vuong; Jimmy, Myles, Joe; Will, Stevie. Subs: Abdul, Steff, Matt D Man of the Match: Stevie Goals: Stevie (x4), George, Myles.

After last week’s cup action, it was back to the league for the Falcons, who got off to a dream start early on. A neat header from Will set strike partner Stevie on his way, who slotted past the oncoming keeper to make it 1-0. Soon it was two for the Falcons and for Stevie as he broke though the Athenians back line once more to slot home from inside the box after a crisp pass through from Joe.

With Pete’s corners causing chaos all half, it was no surprise that one eventually provided the Falcons with their third. A flick from Will did enough to find returning skipper George on the back post, who was able to get something on the end of another delicately lofted cross to scramble it in to the back of the net to send the team in 3-0 up at half time.

The domination continued into the second half, with Stevie completing his hat-trick with a fine run and finish from the left-hand side, before adding a fourth with a lovely finish off the outside of his boot from the edge of the box. There was still time for a sixth, with the superb Myles capping off a fine individual performance with his first goal for the club thanks to smart right footed finish. Next week it’s league action again, this time against Earlsfield 19.

If you fancy joining the squad, why not come down to training at Kennington Park, where we meet every Tuesday night at 7:45pm! We play league matches on Saturday afternoons, which means Soccer Special and drinks in the pub afterwards!
