Falcons continue winning start to the season!

London Falcons made it two wins from two with a well-earned 3-1 victory over London Olympia that saw us go second in the W&D Micky Warren Division table.

Falcons XI: Matt; Pete, Charlie, Sam; Kieran, Ed S; Myles, Jim, Jimmy; Rob, Will (c)

Subs: Toby, Vuong, Abdul

Man of the Match: Will

Goals: Will 30', 40', 75' (pen)

On another scorching September afternoon, the Falcons started strongly, laying siege to the Olympia goal from the off, with Pete’s set pieces causing chaos in the visitors’ box and our attempts being cleared off the line on no fewer than three occasions. However, with virtually their first attack, Olympia caught the Falcons napping with a long ball over the top and, although Matt saved well from a strong shot, the ball fell perfectly to allow a simple tap-in from the visiting frontman.

Undeterred, the Falcons rallied and were soon rewarded for their endeavour. On the half hour mark, some lovely interplay between Rob and Myles saw the latter break free down the left wing, where he was able to deliver a superb drilled cross into the box for Will to tap in and finish. Soon, the Falcons had the lead. With about five first half minutes left on the clock, Jimmy spotted Will’s run into the box and found him with a beautifully deft chip that he was able to dispatch on the half volley, doubling both his and the Falcons’ tally for the day.

It was much more of the same after the break, with the Falcons pitching up camp in the Olympia half and creating chance after chance with Rob and Will both going close. It seemed as if the third just was not going to come until a speculative effort from Jim was bizarrely stopped by the hands of the Olympia defender, leaving the ref no option but to point to the spot. After a lengthy delay, Will calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net to make it three goals for him and secure three points for the Falcons.

Jim and Jimmy both could have added a fourth after some great work from Vuong saw him cut the ball back, only for Jimmy to smack the ball against the crossbar and Jim being unable to guide the rebound home either. However, victory was secured and that means that the Falcons continue their 100% start to the season. Next week we’re in GFSN Cup action against Newcastle Panthers at 2pm back on Tooting Bec Common!

If you fancy joining the squad, why not come down to training at Kennington Park, where we meet every Tuesday night at 7:45pm! We play league matches on Saturday afternoons, which means Soccer Special and drinks in the pub afterwards!
