He's done tremendously well while filling in as goalkeeper for the past month. February's Player of the Month is Matt!
February has been a hard month to get through with a never-ending stream of injuries and absences disrupting us badly. That said, we came away with two wins, a draw and a slightly unfortunate defeat so we've shown good resilience along the way.
The player vote for February was a close one. Jimmy was recognised for his impressive consistency in the middle while Andrew also picked up a vote for battling through the mud in defence against Soho. Alex came second after playing well in the past three games at centre half and scoring two vital goals along the way. However, it was Matt who came first after some really strong performances in goal.
Conal's spectacular new year's eve injury and Dean's ongoing knee and back problems left a big gap in goal for us. However, with his outfield playing time decreasing while his considerable age has increased, Matt has given a lot of thought to playing between the sticks. Whatever doubts there may have been about this choice, he's dispelled them completely with four really good performances. In particular, he made some brilliant saves against Soho when they threatened to get their noses ahead in the away fixture at Regents Park.
Not only this but, as a proper club man, Matt took the referee's whistle when we had our usual official drop out of our last game. Amateur football clubs rely massively on its members volunteering to do things and he's set a fine example to everyone.
In March we only have one fixture at home to Titans XXL on the 11th.
